This is not a political post. No, this is a heart check for myself and fellow Christians.
So lets do some real deep heart evaluation, shall we?
Let's get straight to the point, no matter what way the election went here is what God says about all the arguments we are having among ourselves:
Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.
Let's face it, anyone who disagrees with you is classified as a "difficult person". It's just a fact. However, really read what this is saying, you must be kind to everyone. Oh yes, even the people who voted for the opposite party.
The world is hurting and people feel hopeless. They are putting their trust and their faith in other humans and a lot of people are left disappointed.
Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.
This isn't saying to tell people who opposed your opinion that your opinion is the one that matters. Because your opinions do not equal the truth. Opinions are not facts, they are just opinions.
What this is saying is to tell the people who are hopeless the only way to have hope.
This is saying to tell the people who are hurting about the only one who can heal their broken hearts.
This is saying to tell the people about about God's grace.
For our God is for us, always.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
And His words are powerful.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
And He hears our every cry.
As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.
So please hear me when I say this- what you say right now has the power to save or destroy.
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
Every word, every argument, and every political debate happening on every social media site and in every restaurant has power. The battle between who is right and who is wrong benefits no one. In fact, at the end of all our words we are still left with our own opinions and the only thing that truly changes afterwards is our influence.
So fellow Christians I want to Challenge you to lead a life worthy of your calling and be that light in this world. Take every opinion of what the world has called you, and show them who God has called you.
You are a leader.
You are a masterpiece.
You are His hands and feet.
You are royalty.
You are a peacemaker.
So let's start acting in unity and be the people God calls us to be, shall we?
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.
Have you ever been to a conference and heard so many good words that you are have too much to self reflect on that you get a little overloaded?
Well, that happened to me last month at NLC's Woman Conference. It was amazing and God really spoke to me but there was a sermon I knew I needed to spend more time reflecting on, but there were parts I couldn't remember. Don't get me wrong I am an avid note taker, however this sermon took my attention so much that I missed the opportunity to write everything down.
Thankfully New Life Church has my back and uploaded the sermon on to YouTube! (THANK YOU!)
So watch this sermon and then reflect on it with me!
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
That verse alone holds power, but he puts it into perspective when he starts to go over the story of King Saul and David. Now I am not a king and I don't have people that I can control by any means, but there have been plenty of times I have done just as King Saul did- I started watching people.
If I am going to be completely honest, there is a particular instance where this has really applied to me within this year. As some may know, I love worshiping God and have been blessed with a singing voice and to be a part of the worship team. I was on a Jesus high because I was proclaiming His name and getting to use the one thing I felt like I was good at for His glory. Then new people joined the worship team and I slowly became scheduled less often. I began to pick people out that I felt replaced by. Soon I was no longer confident in the talent God gave me because I called myself "not good enough". This changed my focus off of my race towards God to me always looking behind me trying to do what they were doing so I would feel worthy. Y'all, I took on that label of being "not good enough" and made it my new name. It ate at my soul and it was like I could apply my new name into every aspect of my life- I was never good enough for anything.
Basically, I allowed a comparison that I created between myself and a handful of ladies to change who God calls me. I allowed it to take the focus off of God & who He says I am.
Comparison always starts with a "But Me" attitude.
Sometimes I wonder if the screens on our phones, and our computers, and our ipads have now become mirrors by which we constantly check for a reflection just to see if we measure up to somebody else. And like a scene stolen from Snow White, we all silently echo the words of the wicked witch- who, by the way, check the mirror every day- just to see "mirror, mirror on the wall. Who is the fairest of them all?" Only today it is "mirror, mirror on Facebook. Tell me how my life should look". "Mirror, Mirror on Instagram. Tell me who I really am".
Let that be the last time tears come down your face because you are playing the comparison game and just rest in the fact that I have given you a grace to run your race.
There is a grace to run your race.
I am constantly working to improve my character. Yes, my character. Here is a few reasons why:
I never want to be labeled as a 19 yr old who thinks they know everything, so I work to improve my teachability.
I never want to be labeled as cold-hearted, so I work to improve my compassion.
I never want to be labeled as someone who is rudely blunt, so I work to improve my filter.
The list can go on and on, because to me you can never stop improving your character.
But do you ever think about how hard it is to improve your character when you feel like it is under attack?
Do people tell you who you are or who you are supposed to be?
Yea, my hand is definitely going up, too.
That's the thing with labels, though. You can do your best to improve yourself in attempts to be exempt from the label, but people are going to classify you into the label they see fit anyways.
Why? I don't really know.
Maybe it is because people project their own fears, emotions, or wants onto others.
Maybe it is because the labels make it easier for others to put themselves above you- to make them seem better.
Maybe it is because people don't even realize they are doing it.
I can't tell you why, I really can't. But I can talk with you about how to make it better for YOU!
This is something I am still teaching myself, but here are some things that are truly helping me.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and He brought them to their desired heaven.
Psalm 107:28-30 (NIV)
These steps are what are helping me out with a lot of current situations, and it is important that you know that it is okay if you do not have the 'rainbow moment' when you think that you should. It is okay! Just be patient and continue to seek Him and His guidance. He will give you that answer you are looking for when you need it.
"Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.
There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all,
who is over all, in all, and living through all."
Lately, it is as though I am on that pottery wheel again as God is sculpting me into a beautiful vase. But I keep coming in and changing it's shape trying to conform to what others say I need to be. Often resulting in closing it up to where nothing can be poured in nor out.
So as of yesterday I have decided to take each opinion into account but really allow myself to listen for what God says about me and His plan for my life.
I am so glad you stopped by. I cannot wait to hear from you!
